Glass Comparison

Ultraviolet light is one of the leading causes of fading and deterioration in artwork, photographs, textiles, and memorabilia. Direct sunlight and prolonged exposure to indoor lighting can gradually break down pigments and paper fibers over time. Using UV-protective glazing such as Museum Glass or conservation acrylic can significantly reduce harmful exposure while maintaining clarity and visibility.

In addition to protective glazing, archival framing materials help preserve artwork long term. Acid-free matboards, conservation mounting methods, and proper spacing between the artwork and glazing all contribute to reducing damage. Placement within the home also matters, as avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity can greatly improve preservation. Combining conservation materials with thoughtful placement creates the best long-term protection for valuable and sentimental pieces.
